About the Production:
Ban the Tal is
multi-media performance art piece investigating the nature
of the Taliban and the complicated workings of a terrorist
mindset that kills in the name of God. Dance, prose, poetry,
music, visual art, and video explore the evolution of the
Taliban through the ages focusing on its effects in the
United States, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The word Tal
means rhythm or beat in Urdu, the national language of
Pakistan. By playing with the words that form the word
Taliban, the piece simply asks to discontinue the
rhythm of terrorism. And perhaps replace it with Art and
Love and Life. It is an honest, heartfelt step to understand
clearly what our community is faced with. It is a deepest,
most sincere wish to shed some light, pose the questions and
search for answers. Ban the Tal will serve as a
unifying platform opening a dialogue about creating a
solution to a global crisis.
